Please give me some info about the markings on a piece of silver. It is marked SHEFFIELD SILVERONCOPPER A star-Lion-Heart-Lion The Hallmark are each in a separate square and the lions are rampant facing right. Does the silveroncopper mean that it is electroplated. George

Silver on copper would seem to indicate that your item is plated. Recognizing the marks (which I don't) would help to determine whether it is electroplated or Old Sheffield Plate. Maybe Audrey or Karen who often answer English questions (or one of the many visitors who never seem to post) who know a lot more about English silver can comment about the marks.

From The Guide To Evaluating Gold and Silver Objects.....

Old Sheffield Plate. Old Sheffield Plate was discovered by Thomas Bolsover in 1742. It is a process fusing a thin sheet of silver to one or both sides of an ingot of copper. This metal ‘sandwich' was then put through a series of rollers, wherein the proportions of silver and copper remained in the same proportions, until the desired thickness for fabrication was achieved. The sheets were worked in the same manner, techniques and fashion as solid silver goods. The manufacture of Old Sheffield Plate was rendered obsolete with the introduction of electroplating.

Your item sounds like it is not antique sheffield plate, but something produced in the USA in the 20th century. If something is actually marked "silver on copper" it means that it's something more recent than the original--true Sheffield plate is not marked as such. I would say your piece is electroplated and not original sheffield plate.
