Hi all,

Have used this site in the past but never posted. A true wealth of knowledge and many thanks to all who share. I collect English Georgian silver myself but have recently been stumped on a silver plated large tray I recently purchased. I don't have a picture of the mark to post but will get one tomorrow...need to charge the camera.

This piece appears to be old Sheffield plate and has a some bleeding of copper on the face of the tray and worn all away on the botton of the four large ball feet. Thought part of the tray appears to be silver on brass.

The tray shows good signs of age and patina, so I would guess mid-1800's give or take.

There is one series of marks on the back that I can't seem to find anywhere, they show a "lion rampant", a "two-headed eagle" and then a "fouled anchor", all in a row & all individual in round cartouche. There are no other marks on the piece.

I would be interested in any thoughts anyone might have!

Cheers, Ted

Welcome to the Silver Salon Forums.

Could you please tell us more about yourself, your collection.

We look forward to seeing the photos. Please be sure to familiarize yourself with How to post Photos.

Might this be business research?

All that is being asked of every new poster is to please first take a moment and briefly introduce yourself, say something about your interest in silver in general, and the reason for your interest in learning more about the object you are asking about. Also, clear photos, both of the overall object, and closeups of the markings are really a must as there are so many markings that are similar that it is not really possible to say much without seeing the object and the markings.
