I have posted a picture of the marks on a sterling tray (56 grams; 18mm high; 150 mm long; 80mm wide) that was retailed but not made by HOWARD & CO. and is marked STERLING, 12, and has a maker's mark with an S that I cannot find anywhere. Anyone have any information.
The picture file number is 131/486

Perhaps Frank Smith and Company? They were in business in Massachusetts from 1886 until 1958 and used several different marks during that time.

Many thanks for your help.
Frank W. Smith was my best guess, but I could not find the exact mark.
Now confirmed by Scott Martin.

Thank you very much. I had guessed that Frank Smith was possible from some similar but not exact marks that I found. But your pictures show the exact mark. Your help is much appreciated. John
