Hi!

I'm new to this forum but maybe some of you can help me! I bought this coffee pot years ago thinking it was from a hotel in NYC called Hotel Pennsylvania. As I began collecting I learned that that hotel's silver service was made by Reed & Barton and had a different logo, etc than this piece from R. Wallace. There are some exceptions where other manufactures made the silverware but it was always the same design until a major redesign in the 40s/50s. That being said, I would love to try and figure out where this coffee pot is actually from. I'm still hoping it somehow actually is from Hotel Pennsylvania in NYC but I have my doubts. How would I go about trying to find out the origins? Unfortunately there are no records left to my knowledge from R. Wallace, the manufacturer. I tried contacting the company that owns them now but there have been so many acquisitions that the current company isn't even related to making silverware anymore.

I made a deal with Hotel Pennsylvania to loan them the pieces to celebrate the centennial of the hotel in 2019 and I would love to include this piece if it really is from the hotel! If no one on here can help, can anyone point me in the right direction on what to do? I appreciate any help! I attached photos below

Was the "Keystone" ever officially a part of the NY hotel logo or does this point to a hotel with a similar logo in Pennsylvania (the Keystone state)?

Thanks for your reply!
I attached a picture of what the logo looks like on Reed & Barton silver that is proven to be from Hotel Pennsylvania. There is no keystone on this logo, however, Hotel Pennsylvania was built by the Pennsylvania Railroad to be used by passengers exiting Penn Station across the street. That's where the name came from. The Pennsylvania Railroad's logo was a keystone. That could explain the keystone, or the keystone is there because whatever hotel this belonged to was in Pennsylvania, the keystone state. The border design is different on this Reed & Barton piece than the R. Wallace piece in question. It may also be worth noting that Hotel Pennsylvania was operated by the Statler Hotel chain and the "HP" logo on the Reed & Barton piece is a spin off of the Statler logo. The Statler logo is identical except there is an "S" as opposed to the interlocking "HP." This makes the R. Wallace piece even more of an oddball.

Since it is so different from the known Hotel Pennsylvania logo I would guess that it is more likely from some other hotel, perhaps one in Pennsylvania. It could be the NYC hotel, but until you can find some proof one way or the other my suggestion is to keep it out of the display at the hotel next year.

If you have not already done so one suggestion might be to find someone at the Hotel Pennsylvania who has been there for decades and who has crawled through every nook and cranny there so that they would know where every logo in the place might be. If they are all the same one already shown that would be an argument against this pot being from there. If there are alternate logos from over the decades then that would be an argument that this is simply one more variety.

The following two PDF files are not silver related but I stumbled upon them while looking into the coffee pot question. I found it interesting.

For a under the wrappers look at Hotel Pennsylvania and the man who built the hotel:
