I am new to buying silver plated items.

I need someone to identify a particular piece that I found in a yard sale.

On the bottom of the piece, it states "Homan Plate on nickel silver w mounts made in USA 0545".

Anyone with ideas?

Homan Manufacturing Company was a company in Cincinnati that specialized in electroplated silver. The company was in business in one form or another from the 1840's to 1941. Without a photograph of the piece it would be hard to date it.

Hi Jeff and welcome to the forum.

Could you please take a moment and re-read the forum guidelines for this forum at Guidelines and provide a bit more information as they request of first-time posters.

We are just a small group of people who like silver and as you will see when you read these instructions we ask new people to please introduce themselves by sharing a little information on their personal collecting interest in silver in general and why they are asking about the particular object in their posting. Also, some clear photos are necessary. A link to instructions on the correct way to post photos in your posting are included in the guidelines. Photos both help us identify an object and they allow the people here to share in the appreciation of interesting silver and silver plated things.

Finally, I see that you are an antiques dealer - is this object something you keep in your personal collection or is it something that you plan to sell as part of your business?

Thanks!

To answer your question about what I plan to do with my pieces is two fold.

I have always been interested in silverware, but have been reluctant to buy them due to the amount of work required to keep them polished. but now that I am older, and have better time management, I enjoy taking a dingy piece and putting a sheen on it.

I started my business because I deal with many older people who are reducing the amount of clutter around their homes. I plan to sell some of my pieces and then build myself a set that if I wanted to I could entertain at least eight guests.

The reason that I am glad that I found this site, is because now I am having a difficult time trying to figure out what the name of the pieces that I am collecting.

Finally, I am at a lost as to how to add pictures to my posts. I read the section on how to, but I am still confused.

Please help make this easier for me!

Thanks,
Jeff T.

Please help us to understand what it is you don't understand. So far, the one thing you tried is not described in How to post photos.

Just to make sure we all understand... You are saying this item is part of your personal collection and is not a part of your potential sales inventory. That this is not business research. For items you intend to sell, please sell them first and then post for discussion.

jetricsoasisantiques,

I deleted all of your strange photo posting attempts. Please follow the instructions, step by step, as described in How to Post Photos. Your wild random attempts don't permit us to offer you any photo posting suggestions.

I can offer a small bit of advice. Take some photos of your silver. Your lady friend is very nice looking but not appropriate for a post
