I have a M.S. Benedict MFG Co. Quadruple plate (I believe) coffee set number 45. I bought it a few years ago and it is very very tarnished (looks black), on the inside you can see a little bit of a silver color. Could it be silver and how would I clean it?

Also, how old might it be?

I've been trying to find info on the company.

Welcome to the forum Dawnslight!

If you would please go back an re-read the top of this page where it says Please Read Before You Post and then add the requested information to your posting I am sure you would get a helpful response. We are just a small group of people who enjoy discussing silver and it is good form to introduce yourself to the group. Please let us know a little more about your general interest in silver and your interest in learning more about your coffee set in particular. Is it a part of your personal silver collection or are you researching in hopes of possibly selling it?

Please also post some nice clear photos of your coffee set and any markings on it. When you post your photos, be sure to include both a nice clear photo or two of the spoons' fronts and backs plus a clear closeup photo of the markings. We are just a group of people who appreciate silver and silverplate and enjoy talking about it. Sharing photos helps us confirm your identification and allows us share in your enjoyment of your tray. Be sure to follow the directions about How to Post Photos including things like using the correct size of the photos and using UBB codes which are all explained in this link.
