Well, I think it is Exeter! Missing the Lion Passant and a date letter. Town mark looks like Exeter though, to be anyway (happy to be corrected!). Looks like a male duty mark too, for date range. Any idea? Thanks in advance for everyone's time Cheers Waylander IP: Logged |

Definitely Exeter. That form of the town mark was in use from c1786 to 1796. Unfortunately I can't reconcile the W* mark with any known maker working around that time. I'm not even sure what the second letter might be. IP: Logged |

Cheers Phil. It is very rubbed I agree. Under a loupe it appears to be an "A" (although that doesn't give me anyone!). Cheers and thanks for your time Waylander IP: Logged |

Welcome back. This is an enlargement of your image. Clearer closeups of the marks and images of the whole item might simulate additional thoughts by members. This might be helpful: IP: Logged |

Quick update. After researching Celtic points, I suspect the town mark is Edinburgh, not Exeter - and the mark of William Auld (spoon maker) fits well (plus he was operating in the period when a male duty mark was used). Cheers Waylander IP: Logged |

Edinburgh was my first guess. IP: Logged |
